Former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is serving a prison sentence for crimes including the theft of money from SRC International Sdn Bhd, wants to spend the remaining time in his prison cell under home arrest.

Najib Razak claimed that he received a royal pardon in the form of an addendum from the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, which allegedly allows him to serve the remaining 6-year prison term under house arrest, according to Harian Metro.

Crucial witness to testify Najib’s application for home arrest

As reported by New Straits Times, a crucial witness is expected to strengthen Najib Razak’s application for a judicial review. Through the said judicial review, Najib will be challenging the said supplementary order from the former Yang di-Pertuan Agong, which would let him serve his jail time at home.

Najib’s lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, mentioned that the “mystery witness” would submit an affidavit to back the former prime minister’s application.

The witness’s identity is concealed for the time being

However, Shafee has decided not to reveal the identity of the witness.

“The ‘mystery witness’ is currently in Mecca and requested to postpone the hearing until April 14 when the ‘mystery witness’ returns to the country.”

The said request was allowed by the High Court.
