With just one day left to go to polling day this 14th general election (GE14), many politicians are getting their last word out before everyone heads out to their polling stations tomorrow (9th May).
So far, politicians from the likes of Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad, and Anwar Ibrahim have penned heartfelt, personal letters to Malaysians, urging them to make a wise decision when polling day comes around.
Now, caretaker Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak has become the latest politician to speak to the rakyat before polling day in the form of a ‘sajak‘ or poem titled “Izinkan Laluan” (Excuse Me).
Reciting the poem over clips of different moments in modern Malaysian history like the Bersih rally and the 1990 reformasi protests, Najib urges the public to make the right decision for the sake of Malaysia’s future.
“I pray that whatever the outcome, that Malaysia chooses with due consideration, rejecting the drama that is covered with sedition and tears.”

Wahai anak- anak watan
Kita kini sudah berada di persimpangan
Rakyat memilih,
masa depan ditentukan
Mahu mengorak langkah ke depan
atau diperangkan politik hasutan
Diwariskan kepadaku
ranjau sepanjang jalan
Yang saling menyayangi
makin hilang persefahaman
Kuasa berhubung tiada sempadan
Fitnah dan dusta
tiada kawalan
Namun demi demokrasi
aku gagahkan
Terkilan melihat amalan
negarawan tokoh
Gelas boleh dilihat separuh penuh
Tetap dikatakan kosongnya separuh
Berita palsu menjadi laba mencemuh
Mengadu domba senjata ampuh
Asas perpaduan diancam rapuh
Izinkan laluan wahai yang berusia
Bangsaku bukan lagi malas, tak membaca dan mudah lupa
Rezeki halal walau memandu pun janganlah dihina
Maranya kami bukan bermakna hormat langsung tiada
tetapi kerana sudah rimas difitnah nista
Syukur ekonomi negara kian berkembang
Kemudahan awam terus ditambah
Kemajuan teknologi semakin diransang
Kecekalan kita semua akhirnya membuah
Perlahan keluar jua kebenaran
Aspirasi akar umbi melengkap ilham wawasan.
Krisis politik berdekad dulu ditinggalkan
Semoga tidak lagi menjadi warisan
Kini masa depan Malaysia jadi taruhan
Doaku apa jua keputusan
Semoga Malaysia memilih dengan pertimbangan
Menolak sandiwara disulam hasutan dan tangisan
Dan bersama ibu pertiwi ini kita terus bangunkan.
Regardless of who we support, let’s all do our part by casting our votes tomorrow. Happy voting, guys!
