A group of illegal motorcycle racers’ attempt to “take over” Kuala Lumpur on a weekend night failed after they were detained by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
The tactical operation was carried out across several main routes that are often used as popular gathering “ports” for motorcyclists, especially on weekends. These locations included Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Ipoh towards Chow Kit, Jalan Ipoh (towards Sentul), and Jalan Raja Laut.

Some riders were stunned by the sudden presence of the authorities, several made illegal U-turns in an attempt to escape, while others abandoned their motorcycles and fled on foot.
“My dad doesn’t know I’m out.”
One of the detained riders, a 17-year-old boy, admitted to PDRM that he had taken his father’s motorcycle without permission and was riding without a valid licence.
The boy also confessed that his father had no idea he was out that night.

“I’m just following my friends. My dad doesn’t know I’m out. I only go out with my friends on weekend nights,” he said, as reported by Kosmo! and Sin Chew.
Another detained rider, aged 19, admitted he had borrowed a friend’s motorcycle despite knowing the vehicle had an unregistered number plate. He said his own motorcycle had previously been confiscated during an illegal race, but this time he simply wanted to “stroll around the city.”
The operation, which ran from 10 pm to 4 am, focused on vehicles and motorcycles suspected of being involved in pickpocketing activities as well as those found to be modified.
