As we all know, former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin was charged with corruption and the sessions court had asked for him to surrender his travel documents.
A month earlier, he submitted a written request for his passport to be returned to him permanently so that he could go for a month-long family vacation in the UK and to Singapore for his medical check-up.
According to Berita Harian, the former PM says that it is a norm for him to bring his family on a month-long holiday every year and this year’s end, they will be going to London, UK.
He added that it is very important for him to go on this vacation so that he can spend time with his family as it has been a tumultuous year for them.
“The travel agents told me that it’s very hard to get tickets at the end of the year so my wife and I had already purchased airline tickets beforehand. I hope the court can allow me to spend time with my family on a vacation.”
Muhyiddin cited another reason for requesting the return of his passport, to go for a medical checkup in Singapore, “there is a heart stress test at the Elizabeth Hospital that doesn’t require me to use a treadmill and that is why I intend to go there as using the treadmill is something that is very hard for me.”
The former PM says that he is not a flight risk as he holds multiple positions: Pagoh MP, BERSATU President and PN Chairman.
“I also have to be present in the parliament when it is in session, my family and assets are all in Malaysia.”
