Malaysian TikToker “Abang Bas” went viral for posting videos on TikTok that showed minor passengers on his bus, accompanied by inappropriate captions.
He was then arrested and charged with 2 sexual offences after, his defence lawyer successfully appealed for a lower bail, which was reduced from RM50,000 per charge to RM30,000 for both.
They needed to raise RM30,000 in funds for Abang Bas
Defence lawyer Umar Zulkarnain explained that the appeal was made because the accused has no stable income, working solely as a school bus driver.
In light of this, Abang Bas’ sister turned to Facebook yesterday (September 11) to raise funds for his bail, and netizens have been flocking to the comments to offer their support without hesitation.
In the post, the sister expressed her thanks to everyone who has shown so much support and positive responses to Abang Bas and his family.
The caption of the post reads,
“Once again, we humbly open a fund with sincerity, based on humanity and harmony, from Allah’s perspective, who never sleeps, to give us confidence. Thank you to the community for offering advice, positive comments, and encouraging words to support the “Abang Bas” fund as a means of earning rewards in the Hereafter.”
The post included the general bank account details and her personal bank account number.
However, some claimed that it was done without proper approval
According to the police report, many Facebook users have allegedly claimed that the collection was done without proper approval and requested that PDRM investigate the matter.
“For your information, I contacted the bank and was informed that I am allowed to collect donations through this private account. I was advised that if there are any concerns from the bank, I would need to explain the purpose of the fund.”
She also included a picture of the police report she made in her posting upon discovering through a family WhatsApp group that someone in the comments had questioned the legitimacy of the donation collection. She then clarified that her decision to file this report was motivated by concerns for her safety and to preempt any potential issues that might arise in the future.
Netizens showed support, with some attaching proof of their monetary transfers.
As of the time of writing, her post has garnered over 1,700 comments and 780 shares.
“May things be made easier for Abang Bas and his family.”
“May everything be made easier for you, Abang Bas.”
“Sincerely from me. I hope this small contribution can help Abang Bas.”
Meanwhile, others remained sceptical and expressed their dissatisfaction.
“Sorry, makcik, but your child’s content is indeed illegal and has attracted a lot of controversy. If he manages to avoid charges or is found not guilty, advise him not to create such inappropriate content. Raise more awareness about pedophilia. Don’t wait until it’s too late to address it.”
“Be prepared for an Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA) review next. I’ve reported it to Bank Negara.”
“Reaching out for donations feels excessive to me. Let the law decide. I know Abang Bas has relatives, but we shouldn’t normalize inappropriate behavior. Children don’t understand, and they might think such behavior is normal. They could end up behaving similarly with friends at school. Even a father could have inappropriate relationships with his own child, so imagine what could happen with an uncle and a nephew.”
“Sorry to ask, but is this really a fund for Abang Bas? Because the family hasn’t set up any fund on TikTok. Please explain if it’s true or not. I’d like to contribute a little.”
