Smoking, despite being an unhealthy habit, is common among people, regardless of gender. But apparently, it is still considered taboo for some people to see a lady holding a cigarette and lighting it up.
Just recently, local actress Sharifah Sakinah uploaded a few images of her in Baju Kurung, and she can also be seen holding an unlit cigarette. The caption of her post speaks about GE15, which took place 3 days ago. Sharifah made it clear that regardless of the party that wins and the leader who will take the mantle of the next Prime Minister, all she longed for is a leader who will do the right thing.
“The one who can empathize and understand from daily struggles to the real hardship simply by being a woman.”
Cigarette and Baju Kurung? Please don’t
Just like every other Malaysian, Sharifah has all the right to express what she’s looking for in a leader of her country. However, many netizens had something else to say in the comment sections, and most of them commented on the unlit cigarette in her hand, instead of the subject matter i.e. GE15.
“Presented as a mom, and this image is not proper for your kids, it’s impolite. Sorry.”
In the meantime, more netizens commented on how the cancer stick does not complement the traditional outfit.
“This outfit does not go well with a cigarette. It’s impolite. Don’t normalise this.”
A netizen said that it’s not proper for a lady to don the Baju Kurung and hold a cigarette at the same time as the outfit is supposed to be respected.
“Ministry of Health’s efforts in holding the stop smoking campaigns just went down the drain.”
