For Malaysians, the routine of carrying out duties during the Ramadan period, like visiting Ramadan bazaars, is a familiar tradition. However, fasting abroad presents a whole new experience for many.

In a recent viral video making its rounds online, user @fikriakram91 took to TikTok to showcase his Ramadhan experience in South Korea, surprising his colleagues with a homemade Ramadan meal.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Fikri shared his inspiration behind the spontaneous act of creating memories with his Korean friends and introducing them to the flavours of Malaysian cuisine.

He expressed that living abroad made him realise the limited availability of Malaysian dishes, prompting him to seize the opportunity to introduce his friends to something new.

“It was a simple yet meaningful way to connect through food and culture,” he added.

He prepared simple Malaysia dishes from scratch

In the video, Fikri enthusiastically prepared simple Malaysian dishes, including dadih and fried beehoon. He even took the extra step of packing all the food, along with dates and a note explaining the significance of Ramadan.

The 32-year-old went on to mention that he has been working in Korea for 8 months. He mentioned that when his colleagues received the food, they were excited and thoroughly enjoyed the dishes.

“It was fulfilling to witness their enthusiasm for something new and their eagerness to try it again.”

Fikri explained that it took him about 2 to 3 hours to prepare the meals for his colleagues.

“For some dishes, I needed to do prep work a day in advance to streamline the cooking process.”

He then shared how he would often cook for himself almost every day at home. However, he would prepare homemade Malaysian dishes for his colleagues when he has the time.

Berkongsi Kurma, Dadih & Bihun Goreng dengan my Korean Officemate. Alhamdulillah, Sambut Ramadan Pertama saya dekat Korea. Jujurnya, most of my Korean colleagues tak tahu pun pasal Bulan Ramadan. Semoga sekecil kecil usaha ini membuka mata mereka untuk kenal budaya/agama kita. The month of Ramadan is a gift from Allah. May Allah grant us all productive and sacred Ramadan. Amin. ❤️#friends #fyp #fypシ #koreanpeople #Koreanlife #malaysian #ramadan
