Scammers these days are trying all sorts of new tricks to cheat us out of our hard-earned money and recently, this Malaysian woman, Sabrina Choo shared a scary encounter she experienced. She said that she was driving alone near Vivacity Megamall in Kuching and didn’t notice that a motorcyclist had been following her since one of the traffic lights.
She said she only realised that he was tailing her when she stopped at a junction and saw that he was next to her. He kept on looking at her and followed her all the way to a parking lot. She stopped there and he asked her to get down from the car, but she ignored his request.
Sabrina wound down the window to ask him what was the matter and the motorcyclist said that she had actually hit him while she was driving. “He said I had hit him while I was driving past Vivacity which caused him to fall off his bike. He was now injured and his motorcycle sustained damages as well. But along the way I did not notice that I had hit anyone at all,” she said.
Sabrina said that at that time she had something urgent to do so she did not feel that it was suspicious. She told the man to leave his contact number so that they could go to the police station to lodge a report later. However, he rejected her suggestion and demanded compensation as he needed the money to fix his motorcycle now as he had to go back to his kampung tomorrow.
Luckily, she had no money on her and offered to call her family members over but he just said it was fine and rode off. “After that, a couple came up to my car and asked me about the motorcyclist. They told me that this guy was a scammer who had already gone viral on social media and said that they noticed the man following me since the traffic light,” she added.
“The couple told me they had recorded videos and taken photos of the man as well in case anything happened to me. They said they were following me to make sure I was okay and I’m really grateful to them,” Sabrina said. She ended her post saying that she wanted to share this out to warn others as the scammer likes to target lone drivers no matter the age or gender. She reminded others to always lock their car doors, keep valuables out of sight and never get down from the car if strangers approach you.
Stay safe, everyone and always be careful!
