The Miri City Council (MCC) has introduced a new measure to ensure that vehicle owners in Sarawak’s second-largest city adhere to its traffic regulations, which is to register those with outstanding compounds in the Credit Tip Off Service (CTOS) system.

Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang was recently quoted by the New Sarawak Tribune as warning vehicle owners that they may see their CTOS credit scores deteriorate if they accumulate significant unpaid parking fines.

He added that MCC is committed to upholding efficient parking management, as mandated by the Road Transport (Provision of Parking Places) (Miri City Council) (Amendment) Order, 2006.

The Miri Mayor elaborated that by utilising the CTOS credit reporting system, the city council hoped to deter repeated non-compliance and streamline parking administration across the city.

Around 300 vehicle owners with outstanding parking fines have been added to the CTOS system

Moreover, in a statement, Adam Yii revealed that some 300 vehicle owners with records of tens of thousands of Ringgit in outstanding fines have since been registered in CTOS.

He shared,

“The 300 vehicle owners are the initial batch recording tens of thousands of unpaid parking compounds, and among them, the highest unpaid amount is about RM20,000.

“One of them has settled the outstanding compounds of about RM7,000. Many have actually come to us asking for discounts and are in the process of settling the outstanding payments,”

Accordingly, the Miri Mayor hoped that this move would push vehicle owners to settle any outstanding fines or compounds as soon as possible.

However, MCC has no plans to offer any discounts for parking compounds currently.
