As the world becomes more and more digitised, the importance of online safety grows more urgent as the future draws nearer, especially regarding protecting our mental well-being. This is why it’s important to educate ourselves on the principles and ethics of online usage so that we can all enjoy the Internet without worrying about our loved ones.

In conjunction with World Mental Health Day, TikTok will be hosting an exclusive talk show on TikTok LIVE from 8 – 10 October as part of its #ThinkTwice initiative, with TikTok creators, mental health experts, and other key partners why online safety is important.

TikTokThink KV Horizontal 1

If you’re a heavy online user (don’t be shy! Most of us are ?) or a guardian to smol human beings (a.k.a. kids) and/or senior folks, then all the more reason to check this out!

Here’s why we think it’s worth checking out TikTok’s #ThinkTwice LIVE talk show + more:

1. #ThinkTwice for online safety

TikTokThink Kid

In early September, TikTok kickstarted their #ThinkTwice digital movement to help Malaysians create a safe and positive digital environment not only on their platform but, across the World Wide Web too. Apart from hosting the main event (the #ThinkTwice live talk show), the online campaign includes an extensive resource hub that lets Malaysians learn more about TikTok’s safety features, Community Guidelines, and how to engage in mindful sharing (we’ll get into these shortly)!

For now, don’t forget to mark your calendars for 8 – 10 October, because those are the dates of TikTok’s #ThinkTwice live webinar! To be held on TikTok’s official LIVE account @tiktoklive_my, the talk show live stream will see plenty of popular TikTok Creators engaging in discourse with mental health experts and key partners in an array of topics, comprising:

TikTokThink Family

This talk show will feature femes TikTok creators, mental health experts, and key partners, including the CMCF, AWAM, and MIASA, who’ll work together to provide practical tips on:

2. The easiest way to be better netizens

TikTokThink Better

With the rise of online interactions, it’s crucial to understand the importance of taking a step back and reflecting on what we view, share, comment, and post online. After all, wouldn’t we want to reduce toxic negativity and inspire a more supportive online environment for everyone?

TikTok’s #ThinkTwice digital campaign hopes to turn that dream into reality through the titular talk show, as well as providing a one-stop resource platform for all your online safety needs, comprising:

a) Community Guidelines

By reading up on TikTok’s Community Guidelines, you can better understand what type of content is considered harmful and unethical to post or share. Plus, you’ll get to learn how to self-regulate if you ever kena cyberbullying, online harassment and such – you can even teach others how to protect themselves!

b) Guide to TikTok’s safety features

Did you know TikTok has a slew of features that better ensure public online safety for everyone? You can read all about them here, where you can learn how to report wrongful content, activate Comment Care Mode (filters your comments) and more.

c) NGO support channels

Reach out to participating NGOs like CMCF, AWAM, and MIASA if you ever need help with your online and mental health needs. Or you can give them a follow on their respective TikTok pages for more informative content on this pressing matter.

d) Inspiring content from Malaysia’s top creators

Influential Malaysian TikTok Creators – such as @yimotapir (TikTok Awards 2024’s Animation Creator of the Year, TikTok coach @wfsufina, and animation expert @ggatorart – have also been creating creative yet educational content for the campaign, promoting safety features and positive engagement on the platform. Be sure to search up #ThinkTwice on TikTok and be inspired by their videos!
