The saying that “economy rice is not that economical anymore” is probably true, especially in the times when the prices of goods are continuously increasing.
In the Facebook group, a frustrated Malaysian customer recently shared his experience of being overcharged for a pack of mixed rice. Based on his picture, he got himself a pack of white rice with a chicken drumstick and some Acar vegetables. For that, he paid RM18, which to him, was overpriced. He tried asking the cashier about the price but to no avail, there was no answer.
“It’s not even this expensive in KL. I’m not returning to this place. Doing business like this will cause the customers to leave,” the customer said in his post.
The restaurant is located in Sungai Petani, Kedah and soon after the post circulated on social media, the restaurant owner broke his silence and shed light on the matter. According to him, it was merely a misunderstanding.
It should’ve been RM12, at most
According to the owner, here’s how much he would’ve charged the customer,
- White rice (RM2)
- Chicken (RM5)
- Acar vegetables (RM3 to RM4)
The owner said the customer is more than welcome to visit the restaurant and if he was overcharged, the restaurant is happy to refund the extra charges.
He added that the cashier on that day was busy collecting cash and talking to other customers, which explained why she couldn’t respond to the customer who asked about the RM18 price.
“I’ve checked the CCTV and the customer took 3 spoonful of the Acar vegetables.”
The owner, who has been running the business for 10 years now said that the prices of chicken and pork have increased, but he will adjust the cost accordingly based on the market price.
As a customer, if you believe that you’re overcharged, would you have returned to the place for a refund?
