When you’re on a budget but desperately need a getaway, a road trip can sometimes be the best way to solve all your issues. One Malaysian man, however, just shared how he was able to travel around the entirety of Peninsular Malaysia in less than a fortnight.

Malaysian traveller and content creator Hazwan Hafiz is an avid explorer on everything rare and beautiful in the nation, and he recently made the feat to do the unbelievable.

In a series of photos posted to his TikTok account @hazwanhfiz, the traveller shared how much he spent while taking a round trip across West Malaysia.

Referring to the trip as “Cik Kiah’s Group Trip To Conquer Semenanjung Malaysia”, Hazwan stated that he brought his parents along for the trip, which saw them travel a total of 2,914km.

Beginning in Kedah and ending there too, the family used their car to go down quiet and windy roads as opposed to well-known highways throughout the state. Speaking on the many places they were able to see along the way, Hazwan stated that they were able to cross into a different state each day they travelled. In the end, Hazwan revealed that the trip took them 12 days to complete.

Breaking down the cost of the trip, Hazwan revealed how much he and his parents spent for all 12 days:

  1. Petrol – RM410 (using a 2014 Honda City that was one and a half years old).
  2. Accommodation – RM1,163 (for three people)
  3. Food and drinks – RM923 (for three people)

In total, the family had spent just RM2,496 for the roundtrip.

Talking about the total cost endured by the trio for the trip, Hazwan was forthright about the fact that the total amount he spent is not fixed in any way, and that it does depend on how long one chooses to travel for, types of places they would stay at, and what kinds of food they’d eat.

“Everyone has different attitudes and nature to them. There are some who can eat at a roadside stall, but others who need a restaurant. I am the type that doesn’t care, so the cost differs greatly on where you will eat and drink,” wrote Hazwan in the caption of his post.

Aside from that, Hazwan also said that the type of vehicle one drives can also be a factor in determining how much one spends for a trip such as this. Giving an example, Hazwan relayed how driving an SUV or MPV would be more fuel efficient than a sedan.

Furthermore, he also pointed out that depending on the number of people one travels with, the split cost for each person would also be reduced.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Hazwan stated that a round trip across Peninsular Malaysia was on his bucket list of things he aimed to achieve, no matter what the cost was.

“At first, I thought of touring solo with a bicycle, but that didn’t happen. After that, I thought of riding a motorcycle, but it also didn’t happen. Finally, it was achieved by car, but this time, I took my parents with me,” said Hazwan to WORLD OF BUZZ.

When talking about the planning the trip, Hazwan stated that it was important for him to record all the expenses of the trip so people would be motivated to go out there and travel across the country, not bearing a large cost as well.

Receiving immense praise for calculating all his expenses, a few commenters thanked Hazwan for going through the hard work and providing them the information, so they can plan a similar trip in time to come.

Others even remarked how nice the trip must have been, seeing the beautiful and quiet scenery of the surroundings.

A few users even recounted their own memories of doing something similar, too.

“I made a roundtrip across Peninsular Malaysia in 2012 when I was just 20 years old. It was just  me and my EX5 motorcycle… it was the best,” wrote one user.
