As time passes, many local TikTokers continue to create content that many Malaysians find relatable to their daily lives. While it may be relatable to some, others may find the content inappropriate, or even insulting.
A Malaysian TikToker, Ryan Bakery is known for his imitating-like content, where he often plays the role of a high school student, son, mother, and father. In one of his recent TikTok posts on his account @ryanbakery, he took on the role of an unfriendly receptionist at a clinic’s counter. It was only 40 seconds but let’s just say, Ryan’s acting was convincing. It’s just like he’s the receptionist that we tend to see sometimes.
In the clip, Ryan maintained the same facial expression throughout the whole time while trying to entertain the questions of a patient.
“Anything? Have you been here before? IC,” Ryan delivered his lines like a tired, nonchalant, poker faced receptionist.
The clip ended with Ryan, as the unnamed receptionist, asking the patient to take a seat before his attention went back to the screen.
Many netizens praised Ryan for the uncanny resemblance and the accuracy of the situation, however, in a recent interview, the TikToker revealed that not many were happy with his recent content, particularly those who work in the industry.
“I’m merely imitating what I see in real life with no ill intentions”
In the interview, Ryan admitted that he has always been highlighting the random kind of human manners in his content, and none of them is meant as a personal attack on anyone, including those in the health sector.
“I’m creating content for entertainment purposes, not to attack anyone at all.”
Ryan added that since the “clinic receptionist” content went viral, he has been receiving many DMs from netizens who dislike the idea of painting clinic receptionists in a bad light. Instead of getting upset, Ryan took the time to explain to them his intention through DM and IG stories.
Other netizens, on the other hand, did not find his content inappropriate and in fact, many of them agreed that the situation does happen in real life.
“I agree with Ryan. There is indeed medical officers like that in real life.”
“It’s okay. If I see a receptionist like that, I’ll tell her not to get mad when Ryan does content like that.”
“I’m a receptionist at a government hospital too but I’m not taken aback because I’m not like that. I’m always happy and smiling.”
“Ryan represents and illustrates our feelings as a Rakyat.”
