Violence is never the answer to anything.

On the morning of March 22, a 17-year-old student at a vocational college in Lahad Datu was found dead in his dorm.

Lahad Datu district police chief ACP Dr Rohan Shah Ahmad said that the deceased had signs of bruises and injuries on several parts of his body when he was discovered.

“Further examination (of the victim) found injuries and bruises on several parts of the victim’s body…also seized was a smartphone charger believed to be related to the case.”

It is said that the college director was the one who lodged the police report about the victim who was found unconscious on the floor. When the personnel arrived at the scene, the boy was declared dead.

The body was sent to the Forensic Department of Lahad Datu Hospital for a post-mortem examination. At the same time, 13 boys ages 16-19 were detained to help in the investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

BERNAMA reports that his death seemed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the victim and the other students.

In an update, the misunderstanding seems to have started when 2 of the students lost RM35 and RM50 in cash and the victim was accused of the theft.

“The victim was then beaten to death. However, the police are still waiting for the full autopsy report from the Forensic Department of the Lahad Datu Hospital to ascertain the actual cause of death of the victim.“

All of the suspects tested negative for drugs and 12 smartphones were seized to help in the investigations. Witnesses such as hostel wardens, security guards and other students were interviewed as well.

Other than that, the police have also urged the public to not make any speculations and have said that they are conducting a thorough investigation on the case.

May justice prevail.
