A Malaysian man’s plan to quietly return home after visiting his secret second wife in Medan, Indonesia, was foiled when he was detained by authorities.
The 46-year-old lorry driver had travelled illegally into the neighbouring country via sea routes managed by a syndicate, as his first wife currently holds his passport.

The man’s discreet arrangement fell apart on Monday (26 January) after he was intercepted on a fibreglass boat alongside several undocumented passengers. The man, who requested anonymity, revealed that he had secretly married his second wife a year ago after meeting her in Rawang.
He spent RM1,100 every few days on boat trips
According to Sinar Harian, the man travelled back and forth to Medan every four to five days through a syndicate route. With his passport held by his first wife, he claimed he had no choice but to use “backdoor” routes to visit his second wife in Medan, who is currently five months pregnant.
Interestingly, the illegal waterway route was suggested by the second wife herself. Despite paying RM1,100 per trip, the man admitted the conditions were harsh; he often endured hunger and total darkness during the gruelling journey. Back in Malaysia, his first wife remains completely unaware of both the secret marriage and his illicit trips across the border.
Most passengers were illegal immigrants from Indonesia

The fibreglass boat was intercepted by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Selangor approximately 1.5 nautical miles southwest of Bagan Nakhoda Omar, Sabak Bernam, at around 12:30 AM on Monday.
Selangor Maritime Director, Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh, stated that the unregistered boat was operated by a 36-year-old Myanmar national. In addition to the Malaysian man, there were 26 undocumented immigrants (PATI) from Indonesia on board, including 17 males (one of whom was a five-year-old child) and nine women.
