A single mother from Malaysia who brought her son along to South Korea recently shared her emotional story about having to leave her toddler at home alone so she could work and earn a living in the country.

Taking to social media, the woman, Lai Yi, revealed that she could only monitor her child from afar while at work, using a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera installed at home.

“No parent wants to leave their child alone at home”

According to Sin Chew Daily, the woman explained that she had to make these tough decisions to give her son a better future.

“Not every company in South Korea allows staff to bring their children to work, and with no one else to rely on, I had to make this difficult decision, even though it was really hard,” she said.

She added that she’s willing to face life’s toughest challenges, but what truly hurts her is the thought of her child being left alone at home.

Looking back, she shared how her child rarely cried, having had to learn to be independent from the age of three.

“If I had a choice, no parent would want to leave a 3-year-old alone at home from morning till evening.”

“My greatest wish is to make up for the time we’ve lost”

The woman added that it was her son’s strength and understanding that helped her recover from the brink of collapse and keep facing life’s challenges.

“My child had to grow strong with me. Many people can’t believe such a young child can be so independent. To put him at ease, I would prepare his meals before leaving for work every day.

“During my lunch break, I would have lunch with him over a video call, trying to make up for the time I couldn’t be with him,” she said.

She also admitted that their living conditions have gradually improved, and now that her son is six, her biggest wish is to make up for the time lost in the past.
