Malaysian singer, Winnie Kok, was allegedly scammed out of RM380,000 in emergency savings that were meant to go towards treatments for her sick mother, after her friend had introduced her to a ‘Datuk’ offering her a hefty spokesperson deal.
This incident happened in 2023, but the singer is finally revealing it to the public now.

A Malaysian singer lost RM380,000 after a friend introduced her to a ‘Datuk’
According to a report by China Press, the singer believes her friend of 9 years may have been in collusion with the businessman, who is apparently a ‘Datuk’, as the friend had introduced her to him with an offer to hire her as an exclusive spokesperson for a real estate project in Malaysia.
The ‘Datuk’ also offered her compensation of RM800,000 to RM1 million for her services as a spokesperson and claimed that he did the same with an artist in Hong Kong for a project there.
She truly believed his offer
Upon meeting the ‘Datuk’, Kok didn’t have any doubts about him as he showed her videos and photos of a construction project and its exhibition hall, making her believe the real estate project was real.
She also pointed out that she trusted her friend, which led her to believe the deal was legitimate.

The ‘Datuk’ then told her that his finances were tied up in an electronic account in China, and asked her to pay a RM380,000 fee on his behalf. She made the payment through instalments over 2 weeks.
“That money was the emergency fund I had saved for my sick mother. The businessman promised to return the money within 2 days, but he lost contact instead. I went to a police station to report this case in October 2023,” she said.
She later learned that not only is the businessman’s ‘Datuk’ title fake, but that he is also bankrupt.
She added that this incident left her feeling damaged in mind, body and spirit, and she is choosing to share her experience now in order to warn people not to trust people easily.
