Sexual harassment cases in Malaysia have become a growing concern lately. With an increase in reported cases, more girls are bravely sharing their experiences, some even filing official reports.
Sarah (pseudonym) took to her Instagram to share an incident that occurred while she was attending a gathering with friends from her former college.
Sarah turned to her Instagram to break her silence and share an incident from the gathering where someone had forced themselves on her.
In the post, she explained that at the party, she had gone upstairs to one of the rooms to make a call to her boyfriend while everyone else was gathered downstairs.
After ending the call with her boyfriend, a man entered the room and, from behind, forcibly embraced her, pushing her onto the bed and attempting to force himself on her.
She shared that even though she managed to break free at that time, she chose to remain silent because she was struggling to come to terms with what had happened.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Sarah revealed that the man was actually the host’s cousin and she wished she had spoken out and confronted him sooner.
Sarah went out of her way to explain her choice of clothing, hoping that people wouldn’t place blame solely on her attire. She even acknowledged that she should’ve been more mindful of how much she was drinking that night.
“I wasn’t even wearing anything that were exposing so much of my skin. But I admit that I should’ve controlled my alcohol intake and that’s on me.”
Sarah wrapped up her post by sharing that she knows speaking up opens her to scrutiny and judgment. She also noted that she’s okay with online users expressing their thoughts or commenting on her situation.
