Deadlines are perhaps one of the most stressful words that we don’t only hear at work but also as students back in college.
We are bound to face different lecturers with countless methods in handling the students, especially in terms of late submissions of assignments. Recently, in a post that has since been deleted, a lecturer revealed that he will simply “send” the assignments that are submitted late straight into the trash bin.
Following the circulation of the post, another senior lecturer from a different institution, Dr Zach has something to say about that.
“On behalf of the academia, I feel very sorry for that. In principle, we don’t do that.”
In a TikTok video that he posted 2 days ago, Dr Zach explained that instead of disposing of the late submissions, there are other alternatives to handle the matter. He suggested that prior to making any decisions, lecturers may try to reach out to the students through phone calls or e-mails for further explanations.
“You have to remember, in this current situation, we’re challenged by a lot of things,” he added.
He also stated the possibilities that the student may feel down upon watching his submission being thrown into the trash bin online.
Dr Zach reiterated that he is not supporting late submissions but as a lecturer, it is good to lead by example in order to shape the future generation. He deemed the action of throwing the assignments as inappropriate and believed that things could’ve been handled better.

Speaking to the WORLD OF BUZZ, Dr Zach believes that the ongoing pandemic is not the only challenge the students have to face. Besides keeping oneself safe, some of the students may also have a hard time adhering to the deadlines as most of them are staying at home or off-campus. This is because they can struggle to access the facilities where some students may not be able to get a strong and stable internet connection back at home.
Deadlines are undeniably tough to cope with at times, be it academically or as a working class. Do you think late submissions deserve to end up in the trash bin or there are other ways to handle it?
