Since 2022, the Malaysian National Security Council has been stressing that the RON95 petrol is only reserved for cars that are registered in Malaysia. Despite the reminder, some foreign drivers are still happily using the subsidised RON95 when they are meant to use RON97.
Just recently, an image showing a Thai biker using RON97 has gone viral after it was initially shared on the Facebook page Moto Malaya. Some drivers from Singapore are known for using RON95 despite knowing that it is not meant for them, and the admin of Moto Malaya decided to share the image of as responsible Thai as food for thought.
“Perhaps Singaporean drivers can learn something from them.”
The scene was captured at a gas station in RNR Tapah, Perak, about 84km away from Ipoh.
Entitlement?
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Moto Malaya said that there were a total of 20 Thai bikers at the scene, and EVERY ONE OF THEM followed rules & regulations by fueling up with RON97. Of course, not every foreigner is ignoring the rules for petrol usage, and Moto Malaya shared with us their thoughts on Singaporean drivers who use the subsidised RON95.
“Perhaps, it’s because a lot of Malaysians work in Singapore and they drive home their Singapore-registered cars.”
Moto Malaya continued and said,
“That’s why they think they are entitled to the subsidised Malaysian prices.”
Moto Malaya also told WORLD OF BUZZ that the government has to address this issue officially and come up with effective implementation.
“Targeted subsidies will the best way but they have to be tough on implementation.”
In the meantime, many netizens are impressed by the Thai biker who followed rules and praised him for his co-operation.
“Good attitude.”
“He didn’t try to act rich, but he can fill up on RON97.”
“That’s the difference between culture and rules.”
“I respect this. Thank you for following the laws.”
Regardless of where you’re from, we do hope that everyone can abide by the rules not only to avoid unwanted issues but also as a form of respect for the country that you’re a guest in.
