The floods in Johor is one of the worst flooding incidents ever recorded in the nation as over 33,000 Johorians have been reported to have been evacuated amidst the floods.

However, in times of crisis, Malaysians often unite and do whatever it takes to help one another.

Recently, a man known as Abang Salleh was caught on video risking his life by clinging onto a rope while braving the strong current of a flood to ensure that food aid reached a temporary evacuation center (PPS) at a school in Johor.

In the video which was shared on TikTok by @zurainiswarno, Abang Salleh is spotted holding on to the rope and persevering through the strong current in an attempt to deliver the aid.

With the floodwaters reaching up to his torso, Abang Salleh could be seen struggling to move as the current of the water slammed into him.

Several flood victims were also seen in the video, helping him by holding on to the rope on both ends before reaching the gate of the school that had been turned into a PPS.

An unsung hero

The video has since gone viral and currently sits on over 1.3 million views. Malaysians praised Abang Salleh for his efforts and for stepping up and risking his life to help others.

“Hoping that this abang hero is always safe and healthy. We will pray for you.”

“Fighting with his life. I pray that he is rewarded for his efforts“, said another user.
