All police stations in Malaysia will now close at 10pm sharp every night.
During the parliamentary session yesterday (June 9), Home Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that all police stations across the nation will be closing their gates at 10pm as a security measure following the horrifying attack at the Ulu Tiram Police Station, which robbed the lives of 2 young PDRM officers.
“PDRM’s immediate action is to tighten the SOPs for all areas of the District Police Headquarters (IPD), stations and main police premises under administrative instructions.”
Saifuddin also understands that people’s safety is a priority but at the same time, the police stations are also likely to be a target of attack at any time.
“We have to ‘balance’ the police station as a place where people lodge their complains and at the same time, the police station is also a target.”
He said this in response to a question from Datuk Seri Richard Riot (GPS – Serian) regarding measures to tighten security at police stations in Malaysia following the recent incident at Ulu Tiram Police Station, Johor.
Additionally, in response to an additional question from Abd Ghani Ahmad (PN-Jerlun) regarding the measures taken to face the terrorist threat, Saifuddin said that the security forces are always in a state of readiness.
“The police will always take appropriate steps and actions to stop the threats or terrorist-related ideas from spreading in this country.”
In case you missed it, 2 young PDRM officers were killed in the Ulu Tiram Police Station in May after a masked man intruded the premise and killed them with a machete. The suspect was later shot dead at the scene.
