When taking children out to recreational spaces in public, parents and guardians should always keep an eye on them to ensure that they do not hurt themselves or others.
But, what happens when the parents aren’t paying attention and their kid does something bad?
Lynn Nasir took to her Facebook page to showcase a young girl stepping on her son’s face while he was submerged underwater in a shallow pool at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur.
She wrote, “I try to be patient when I see this photo, but I think it’s important to warn all parents who want to take their children out for fun, but they end up turning other people’s children into victims. Because you just let your kids have fun in public places while you’re on your phone and don’t care what your kids do.”
This incident took place on May 14 (Sunday) at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, while Lynn was on duty at a national unity convention in PWTC.
“So, the father (Lynn’s husband) who was taking care of our 3 children decided to take them to play at the water park nearby.”
“Unintentionally, as their father was busy taking pictures and recording videos of our children playing in the water, there came this girl (my husband said she was smaller than my son) and deliberately stepped on my son’s face into the water,” Lynn explained.
Upon seeing his son in distress, Lynn’s husband then immediately pulled the girl away and scolded her for her actions. He also looked around for her parents but only saw her father who was paying the children no mind as he was playing on his phone.
Later that day, Lynn ended up hearing of the incident from her son and husband.
“When I came back from work, my son complained that someone had stepped on him until he couldn’t breathe.”
After getting riled up and bombarding her husband with questions about the incident, her husband calmed her down and said that “the girl is small” and to “not make the issue bigger“.
But for Lynn, there is a bigger picture to be drawn from this incident.
“Yes, of course I will not exaggerate the issue. But please, being small doesn’t mean that you can do whatever you like towards other kids. This involves manners and attitude, and these manners need to be taught by parents who need to monitor their kids’ every move when in public places, instead of playing on their cellphone.”
“I don’t know but when I see this picture, I will immediately feel hurt by what happened to my son. If my son died because your daughter stepped on his face while underwater, what would you say? So please, parents, be alert of your children’s behaviour,” Lynn added.
Sharing with WORLD OF BUZZ, Lynn highlighted that the girl’s mother has since reached out to her in regards to this incident, and while they could not see eye to eye over the matter, the girl’s mother ultimately agreed to call Lynn to apologise.
Lynn has yet to receive the phone call and assumes that this is because the girl’s mother could be busy.
