M’sian Motorcyclist on His Way to Work Gets Killed by Lightning Strike

In a freak accident, a man has died after he was hit by lightning near Kampung Seri Cheeding, Sungai Jarom.

According to the New Straits Times, the victim was believed to be on his way to work which was located about 16 kilometers from where his body was found.

Kuala Langat police chief Superintendent Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor @ Saleh, said that police received information about the incident at 6:31pm.

“Preliminary investigations showed that the 50-year-old victim, a local man, was riding his motorcycle to work at a factory in Bandar Mahkota Banting.”

“At 6.20pm, while passing through the road from Rimbayu bridge to Seri Cheeding Tea Plantation, the victim was said to have been struck by a lightning and fell off his motorcycle,” he explained.

“He fell about 50 meters forward and lost consciousness,” he added.

Ahmad Ridhwan said that members of the public lifted the victim and placed him on the side of the road before calling MERS 999 and an ambulance to the scene.

“The victim had burn marks on the right side of his neck as well as bruises on the abdomen and thigh due to the lightning strike.

“There are also injuries on the victim’s chin and knees from the fall. He was confirmed dead at the scene,.”

Ahmad Ridhwan said checks showed there were 2 holes on the ground from the lightning strike at the scene of the incident.

“The autopsy conducted this morning found that the cause of death to be consistent with a lightning strike.” he said, adding that the case has been classified as sudden death.
