A 51-year-old Malaysian man collapsed and died after complaining of a headache while he was playing badminton.
The matter happened last night (July 1) at a badminton court in Sungai Petani, Kedah, where the man was playing with his friends and felt dizzy halfway. Not long after he told his friends about his condition, the man collapsed and became unconscious.

Some tried to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to revive him, but to no avail.
He was sent to the hospital where medical personnel confirmed he died of a heart attack.
Kuala Muda District Police Chief confirmed the matter when contacted by China Press. At the time of writing (July 2), PDRM has yet to release a statement on the matter.
Sudden cardiac arrest
In a Facebook post by Dr. Dharmaraj Khartikesan, this phenomenon is known as sudden cardiac arrest.
This condition is usually caused by problems with the heart’s electrical system (cardiac arrhythmias), which disrupts the heart’s ability to pump and stops the flow of blood to the body’s organs.
“Sudden cardiac arrest is not the same as a heart attack, which occurs when blood flow in the heart’s blood vessels is blocked. However, a heart attack can sometimes trigger electrical disturbances that lead to sudden cardiac arrest.”

It is also important to note that a sudden cardiac arrest can occur in individuals with no known history of heart disease.
According to Dr. Dharmaraj, a sudden cardiac arrest can be caused by:
-
Coronary artery disease
-
Heart attack
-
Electrical abnormalities of the heart (heart rhythm abnormalities)
-
Heart muscle disease (cardiomyopathy)
-
Heart valve abnormalities
-
Congenital heart defects (present from birth)
Performing CPR is likely to increase the chances of survival while waiting for help from medical personnel.
