As many of you know, scam cases have been on a worrying high lately and netizens are rightfully cautious now more than ever of being tricked by online frauds.
Most of these scammers usually hide behind another face or identity so that they can leave without a trace after conning the innocent.
Recently, a Twitter user took to the social media platform to reveal how her identity had been stolen and misused by unknown scammers who use her face as the scapegoat for their scams.
I letih, jangan sampai i pergi sabah cari you. Tipu orang ribu ribu. Dah masuk lokap ingat dah insaf, tukar alamat siap. Tolong rt especially org sabah. Tolong jgn percaya/tertipu lagi pic.twitter.com/Zm2cRGXVYG

“I’m tired. Don’t make me come to Sabah and find you. You cheated thousands of people.”
What’s worse is that the scammer edited the poor woman’s face before putting it on a fake IC and driving license under the name Nur Syafieqah Mazlan.
This scammer even had the audacity to use the innocent netizen’s face not once, but twice! With a different address attached.
However, both addresses reveal that the scammer is operating in Sabah. The unidentified con artist apparently carries out his schemes by selling iPhones online. They usually ask for susceptible buyers to share their IC and driving license first if they express interest in their schemes.
As scary as it is to have someone manipulate your face like this, a Twitter user recently came forward with a few useful tips to detect whether ICs shared online are authentic or fake.
According to @abakrmuhd, you can look out for these sure signs to identify a scammer:
- Beware of pictures that have been adjusted by photo editing apps to edit the exposure and contrast resolution.
- One of the most noticeable edits is usually near the chin. There’s a horizontal edge that gives away how edited the face is.
- Look for inconsistent sharpness in the photo. In this case, the edge between the face and hijab is too sharp, it doesn’t blend at all with the other blurry elements of the photo.
- If there are two photos, compare them side by side! Here, you can evidently see how the woman’s face has literally been copy pasted into a different tudung.
Thankfully, some netizens were smart enough to detect that things were fishy with this seller. And many of them LOL-ed at this scammer’s fake address.
We hope some of those tips were useful to you. Stay safe out there, guys!
