Recently, a man in Perak was sentenced to 6 months in jail and to pay a fine of RM2,500 by the Magistrate Court after he pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography.
The 24-year-old, Liew Ming Hui, will need to undergo another 5 months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.
According to BERNAMA, Liew was caught being in possession of child pornography which he stored in a pen drive. In there, he had 19,011 videos and pictures of children.
It is said that the Criminal Investigations Unit of Hilir Perak had conducted a check at his house and confiscated his laptop, adapter and pen drive. The PDRM forensic team then found the child pornography in the pen drive.
He was charged under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which carries imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or both.
Prior to the proceeding, Liew’s lawyer had asked the court to give his client the lightest punishment as he had regretted and repented his actions. The lawyer adds that his client is also still young and is working as an assistant at a traditional medicine store belonging to his father.
Responding to the news of Liew being sentenced to only 6 months in jail and a fine of RM2,500, netizens are saying that it is too lenient.
“Only RM2,500??? Only 6 months in jail??”
