M’sian Immigration Sends Birthday Cake to S’pore Counterpart for Their National Day in Annual Tradition

Singapore recently celebrated their 59th National Day on Friday (9 August) and in a heartwarming show of camaraderie, the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) in Johor Bahru saw fit to present its Singaporean counterpart with a birthday cake!

Taking to Facebook, the Singaporean Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) shared photos of the 2 countries’ front liners meeting for the wholesome exchange, including the adorable floral-themed cake given by JIM.

In the post, ICA thanked their Malaysian counterpart for the kind gesture to mark Singapore’s 59th birthday.

ICA said that it looks forward to continuing the strong partnership with JIM, ensuring smooth trade and safe travels at both countries’ land borders.

Meanwhile, the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Immigration Department’s official Communications and Corporate Facebook page shared that the birthday cake was presented to ICA by the Deputy Chief of Immigration at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar, Puan Vimala A/P Ramalinggam.

 

Malaysian Immigration also presented the Consulate General of Singapore in Johor Bahru with pulut kuning

Besides that, the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Immigration Department through Puan Vimala had also presented a gift in the form of pulut kuning or yellow sticky rice to a representative at the Consulate General of the Republic of Singapore in Johor Bahru on Thursday (8 August).

The birthday cake exchange is an annual tradition between JIM and ICA

This wholesome interaction is actually a tradition between both countries’ immigration departments during their counterpart’s Independence Day celebrations.

Last year, JIM sent a red and white-themed birthday cake to ICA on 9 August for Singapore’s National Day, while on 31 August, ICA sent a blue, white and red-themed birthday cake to JIM for Malaysia’s Merdeka Day.


Awesome! We hope that the camaraderie between both immigration departments, as well as between Malaysia and Singapore in general perseveres and grows stronger.
