Nasi Kandar Pelita is one of the most famous Indian Muslim or Mamak restaurant chains in our country thanks to its good food and service.
In fact, the restaurant chain is so popular that even the workers’ blue and yellow uniform is instantly recognisable from afar.
So much so, that one Malaysian recently had to double-take when he thought he saw the Nasi Kandar Pelita uniform on display at a high-end retail store.
As it turns out, the shirt being displayed is actually from Versace but looks awfully similar to the Mamak restaurant’s uniform.
Taking to TikTok, the man, Afif Sukhairi posted a hilarious video of the shirt on display by the Italian luxury fashion company at an undisclosed retail store location.
The 11-second video just showed the shirt with the overlaid text of “Nasi Kandar PELITA shirt” and slowly panning to show that it’s a Versace store.
In the caption, Afif wrote,
“Wow, Nasi Kandar Pelita shirt is even sold in VERSACE ???”
The video has since gone viral, with over 339,000 views and 22,600 likes as of the time of writing. You can watch it here:
In the comments section, many netizens are amused by the finding and said that the Versace shirt does look similar to the Nasi Kandar Pelita uniform.
One commenter joked that the restaurant chain owner is so rich thanks to all the regular customers that they can provide Versace shirts as the workers’ uniform.
Meanwhile, another commenter joked that no wonder the restaurant’s seafood options for Nasi Kandar are expensive, as the workers are all wearing Versace.
The video even attracted the official Nasi Kandar Pelita TikTok account to comment, which simply invited Afif to lepak at the restaurant together.
Back to the Versace shirt, a quick Google Lens search shows that the shirt is called the Barocco 660 Silk Shirt.
On its official European store, the shirt is priced at EUR1,100 or approximately RM5,500.
Woah, I could buy a lot of Nasi Kandar with that kind of money!
