We can’t control our emotions, but our actions are definitely under our control. But we’re all humans, and it’s in our nature to sometimes make mistakes.
Malaysian radio DJ Jack Lim recently shared his experience of encountering a pervert who was caught taking upskirt pictures and videos in KL Mall. Jack was at the mall to promote his upcoming CNY movie, and little did he know that the promotional event day would be when he lost control.
In his FB post, Jack started by apologising and said that he was ready to accept any legal consequences for physically assaulting the perpetrator before the auxiliary police came. Jack had kicked the man and was stopped by the auxiliary police who tried to de-escalate the situation.
Regardless of his actions, Jack explained that recent events around the country, especially those that involved sexual harassment and rape cases, angered him.
“As someone who has wife and kids, I have duty to protect the people around me. I’m sorry. I know I shouldn’t have taken actions on my own. I couldn’t stand it.”
Jack continued and explained the worsening recent situations that involved the safety of the women, saying, “You know how crazy these men can get. They’re mostly repeat offenders. A woman was raped while taking the pedestrian bridge, and another woman was followed into the restroom.”
Jack also said he was at the police station until late at night to assist in the investigation.
The perpetrator tried to run away after he was caught in his act, but to no avail.
It’s a trauma for women, especially those who have fallen victim to harassment cases in the past, and for men with family members, it’s only natural for them to be protective. However, this does not mean you should take matters into your own hands.
It’s best to allow the authorities to do their work and bring the perpetrator to justice.
