When it comes to playing video games, there seem to be many misconceptions and stereotypes surrounding this topic. Most people think that gaming is a childish hobby or a waste of time. However, if you take the time to get to know these gamers, you’d discover that there are surprisingly a lot of life skills that you can gain from playing games!

Don’t believe us? We’ve talked to our gamer friends and asked them to share the skills they have gained from playing video games over the years. If you’re curious to know their answers, just read on to find out more!

1. Socialising skills

“It’s funny how there’s a stereotype about gamers being anti-social when we literally have to connect with complete strangers online and work together to win a game! It can be quite hard, especially for an introvert like me. But I admit that connecting with gamers from across the globe has helped me gain more confidence around strangers. If it wasn’t for gaming, I think my college orientation week would have gone a lot worse. Thankfully, not only did I survive, but I gained a couple of friends, too.” – Ashan, 21

2. Language and communication skills

“It’s pretty common to team up with players from other countries so obviously we would speak English most of the time. Since my mother tongue is Bahasa Malaysia, it was definitely intimidating for me because I never spoke English outside of school. But after a while, I realised that these players were not there to judge the way I speak. They only cared about whether or not I can communicate well with them so that our team can win the game. So in a way, gaming has ‘forced’ me to practice and improve my spoken English and thank God for that because I don’t want to cause my team to lose!” – Arif, 18

3. Problem-solving skills

“If you think playing games is all fun and chill, then you are definitely not a gamer! Think about it, even the simplest games like Tetris, Ms. Pac-Man or that classic Snake Game require you to challenge your brain and solve problems.

Nowadays, I’ve been playing a lot of Dota 2 and I found that it requires me to problem-solve quickly and strategise my every move in order to win the game. Not only that, but it also improved my teamwork, patience and most importantly perseverance. Trust me, gamers are the best people you would want around whenever you deal with any problems in real life, too!” – Veen, 25

4. Source of income

“People around me would always tell me I’m wasting time and money whenever I play games. But what they don’t know is that you can actually turn it into a source of income! There are two main ways you can earn money through games, either from joining e-sports tournaments or through streaming on platforms such as Twitch. For me, I have developed a bit of a following through Twitch and even though I’m not a full-time gamer, it does help me to make a steady side income!” – JB, 28

5. Hand-eye coordination

“Having good hand-eye coordination is the most fundamental skill of being a good gamer and it is something that I’ve picked up naturally after years of playing games. Sadly, I think most people underestimate just how important this skill is, not just in gaming but also in real life. For instance, thanks to all those hours of gaming, I’ve become a pretty good driver and I’m also a really fast typist at work!” – Leesa, 27

6. Technical skills

“To be a good gamer, of course, you need to invest in a good gaming setup. I wanted to make sure I got the best setup so I had to do a lot of extensive research about the monitor, controller, keyboard, etc. Before that, I didn’t even know what ‘refresh rate’ or a ‘stabiliser’ was. Thanks to all of the research I did, I somewhat gained the skill to be more ‘technology savvy’ than my other non-gamer friends! It’s pretty cool because I feel proud to be able to help my friends when it comes to gadget-related problems now.” – Zee, 25

It’s true that most gamers tend to be very knowledgeable when it comes to gadgets and technical stuff. This is because many would prefer investing in equipment that have optimum specifications in order to achieve the best performance during a game. For example, when it comes to a monitor, a gaming monitor is a must! An average one just won’t do because a monitor made specifically for gaming will not only allow them to play with smoother and sharper graphics but also gives them a better chance of winning as well.

Wondering what kind of specifications would be good for a gaming monitor? We’ve got your back!

Introducing the LG UltraGear 24″/27″ GQ50F monitor that comes with awesome specifications tailored just for gamers!

If you’re wondering what’s so special about this monitor, we’ll tell you what makes it so awesome! Some of the advanced features include:

  • Optimal design suited for gaming
    • The design of the monitor is not only sleek and chic, but it also has a new Hexagon design with a slim bezel on three sides. This gives the illusion of a virtually borderless screen which is great if you want to use multiple monitors.
    • The base is also adjustable to give you more comfort during gaming.
    • The monitor comes in two sizes which are 24-inch and 27-inch with Full HD screens to give you the best experience.
  • Ultra high-refresh rate of 165Hz and 1ms Motion Blur Reduction (MBR)
    • In case you didn’t know, a high refresh rate in a monitor will allow the screen to display more images per second, which means the visuals will appear smoother and sharper, and it makes it easier to spot your enemy’s next moves as well!
    • Plus, the Motion Blur Reduction will allow you to see every movement clearly so you can be more aware of what’s happening in the game.

  • AMD FreeSync™ Medium
    • The AMD FreeSync technology is designed to eliminate any stuttering or tearing in a video or a game so that the visuals are clearer and smoother. Having this in your monitor can improve your gaming experience as it delivers smooth visuals regardless of what games you play.
  • DAS Mode, Black Stabilizer and Crosshair
    • The DAS (Dynamic Action Sync) Mode is a feature that can synchronise your senses with the real-time actions in your games. This can cut down the response rate in your game and reduce any lagging when you’re in action.
    • The Black Stabilizer can enhance your visibility even in the deep-dark scenes of the strikingly bright visuals in the game.
    • As for the Crosshair feature, it allows you to have a better aim since the target point is fixed in the centre to have a higher shoot accuracy.

Don’t you think these monitor features sound awesome?! ??

The features in this monitor are all about delivering a smoother and clearer gaming experience so that gamers can stay on top of their game and defeat all of their enemies!
