As the school holiday approaches, many parents are taking the opportunity to help their children gain new experiences.
Just over the weekend, a Malaysian woman shared her disappointing experience about wanting to take her family on a cruise.
In her post she said:
“The pandemic was hard on all of us and now that the borders are opened, I think everyone is itching for a trip. I started planning the trip for the September term break and decided that we should take a cruise.
My children have been on planes but not on a cruise ship and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity for them to try something new.”
She did some simple research and decided to book the cruise trip that coincides with her birthday. But just 2 days before they were expected to leave, she received a call from the cruise company.
“They mentioned that they’re currently overbooked and would have to cancel our booking and offer me a full refund”, she said.
“How do they pick who gets ‘kicked’ off and who gets to go? Why did they pick me? This is supposed to be a trip for my kids and I to have fun and celebrate”, she added.
She mentioned that due to their busy schedule, they have no choice but to go to the immigration center to get their passports renewed separately.
“We have really busy schedules and because of the trip, we had to move things around to make sure that the trip is smooth sailing. Who would’ve thought that you would receive a call 2 days before the trip saying that it’s cancelled?” she exclaimed.
Coco also shared that,
“I made the booking 2 months ago and fully paid for it that day itself. I received my cruise tickets and now you tell me it’s overbooked. If it is overbooked, then don’t take my money, at least I would have time to plan another trip for the kids.”
She said that the cruise has offered a full refund and a complimentary cruise trip of the same cabin category, itinerary and duration next year before April.
According to China Press, it seems like this incident has caused many other families to miss their trips. Many of the families were seen waiting at the boarding area with their luggage, only to be told that they’re not allowed to board as it’s overbooked.
We hope that the parties involved are able to salvage what’s left of their holiday for a memorable trip!
