According to research and this medical practitioner, your body odour may be related to whether you have dry or wet earwax.
Taking to TikTok, this doctor explains that people with wet earwax will sweat more!
“Did you know that those with dry earwax are less likely to have body odour compared to those with wet earwax?”
“This is down to genetics, identified as ABCC11. Body odour happens when we sweat, whereby the body produces liquid and chemical reaction with your surroundings,” he shared.
“When it comes into contact with bacteria around you, you will be susceptible to body odour. Those with ABCC11 genetics, they do not have chemicals that are associated with body odour.”
“Hence they are less likely to have body odour. Typically, the Chinese and Koreans, are less likely to have body odour, but certain habits like diet or certain medical conditions may result in body odour, though they may have ABC11 genetics,” stated the doctor.
The genetics behind wet versus dry earwax was discovered in 2006. Dry earwax is very common (80-95 per cent) among East Asians but is lower (30-50 per cent) in southern Asia, Pacific Islands, Central Asia and Asia Minor, and in Native North Americans and Inuit peoples of Asian ancestry.
