With Malaysians going for their AstraZeneca jabs today, we definitely need this advice.
Starting 5 May, Malaysians who volunteered for the AstraZeneca vaccination jabs will be getting their first doses today at selected locations across Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Despite going for their vaccination, the atmosphere of excitement was definitely in the air, especially with most of them praising the efficiency of the process.
However, with such a large number of Malaysians going for their vaccination, you’d expect a lot of misleading or even potentially dangerous info going around. One of these rumours is that you’re advised to take Paracetamol before your vaccination to reduce the side effects. This is proven to be FALSE!
Managing Editor for The Malaysian Medical Gazette, Dr. Khoo Yoong Khean (@yoongkhean), took to Twitter to inform everybody that taking Paracetamol before the vaccination technically won’t help and in fact, some studies show that pre-vaccination analgesia might reduce immune response (it picks up after the booster dose).
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Dr. Khoo gave some other advice for those going for their vaccinations. He said getting a good night’s sleep is essential and taking your prescribed medicines regularly is advised unless your doctor adjusts them for you.
“You can eat and drink as usual unless you’re fasting which is no problem. You also shouldn’t be consuming alcohol on the day of your jab.”
After getting vaccinated, you can continue with your daily activities as per usual. If you’re feeling some side effects like body ache or headache etc, then you can take Panadol and get some good rest too.
