As of now, Malaysia has 50 confirmed cases of Covid-19 with 21 patients having close links to Case 26. Of the 21 cases, 16 were close contacts of case 26 while the other five cases were second-generation infections.
According to Malaysia Kini, Case 26 is UDA Holdings Bhd board member, Datuk Hisham Hamdan. He had travelled to Shanghai, China in the middle of January and was diagnosed with Covid-19 on 27th February. His case has been classified as a cluster case, which marks the second wave of infections in the country.
China Press reported that during his incubation period, the 52-year-old had attended several meetings and activities, indicating that there is a possibility he could’ve spread the virus to other people.
The Ministry of Health identified that he had come into close contact with at least 215 people, of which 16 were tested positive for the virus while 19 were negative. 180 others are still waiting for test results.
Hisham Hamdan is now being isolated at Sungai Buloh hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, UDA Holdings Bhd issued a statement that it was taking precautionary measures to identify those who had come into contact with Hisham. The headquarters are currently closed for disinfection while its employees are arranged to work from home until further notice.
