M’sian Calls Out Double Standards After Seeing More ‘Karens’ Walking At KLCC Park Without Masks

Despite the fine which was imposed on UK expatriate Kerry for not wearing a mask prior to entering the Dior boutique in Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), it seems that the fine has done nothing to deter other expatriates.

Apart from Kerry herself, being seen out and about without a mask recently, it has also been discovered that many other foreigners have been doing the same.

A Twitter post from Malaysian @AdibahOj has recently caught the attention of Malaysians.

Her tweet which featured a pair of female expatriates walking around unmasked at KLCC park reads, “So only a Karen doesn’t need to wear a mask? Wow!”

“I’m so angry because I am local and I follow the rules but this motherfu*ker can simply walk without a mask? This is too much! Is this KLCC area filled with Karens who don’t wear masks? Where is the law? Am I right to be angry?”

She has also tagged Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin in her tweet.

She explained the reason why she is angry is that when she was strolling with her child near the fountain at KLCC park, she happened to take her mask off to take a selfie with her child only to be swiftly whistled at by the police who told her she can’t take off her mask.

“Even to take a photo I had to wear a mask! Then what about those Karens,” she wrote.

“Where is the mask???? Eh hello this is not fair.”

“After he informed me I understood and followed his instructions. But for those Karens who walk around casually in the park its fine,” she stated.

Netizens expressed their support for her tweet

The tweet which was posted this afternoon at 1:04pm (17 November) has garnered plenty of attention. At the time of writing, it currently sits on over 4,100 retweets and 2,800 likes.

Users flooded the comments section to express their support over Adibah’s tweet with many calling for the authorities to take stricter action against such incidences.

One user tagged Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and the Royal Malaysian Police Force in their tweet. The tweet reads, “There has been an abundance of pictures of Karens not wearing masks again and again. Are you just going to remain quiet? If it’s us then you are quick to take action.”

“We are waiting for you to take action.”

Meanwhile, another said, “the KLCC area is filled with expats who don’t like to wear masks in public areas.”

Another user responded to Adibah by saying, “Sis we are not the privileged ones. What is there to do. Our voices are unheard by those on top. They will only listen during elections.”

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Adibah said, “Fines are only a slap on the wrist for these expats, that is why they are willing to flaunt and disrespect our law. This is not the first white person to disrespect our law and that is why I am so mad and triggered when I see them casually outside not wearing a mask.”

Although we are transitioning into the endemic phase, everyone should mask up and maintain in complying to the SOPs in order to prevent another outbreak. We hope that a proper investigation and action will be taken against those responsible.
