Previously, we shared how the Federal Government was trying to further instil unity among Malaysians by making the recitation of the Rukun Negara part and parcel of our lives.
Now, the National Unity Ministry has announced that the Federal Government has approved its proposal for the Rukun Negara to be recited in schools, institutes of higher learning and at every official government function during a recent Cabinet Meeting.
As reported by BERNAMA, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang asserted that the suggestion was an effort to instil the spirit of unity among Malaysians.
He added,
“We at the National Unity Ministry feel that reciting this pledge is very important as we will understand the meeting of unity and harmony in Malaysia when we recite the Rukun Negara.”
Aaron further elaborated that the Rukun Negara was previously recited at every primary and secondary school in our country, but the practice has faded out recently.
Hence, that is why the National Unity Ministry is reviving the practice and expanding it to all official government functions.
The National Unity Minister said that as the Rukun Negara was formulated following the May 13, 1969 incident, it forms the basis of all government policies and activities to ensure Malaysia is peaceful and harmonious.
