While its celebration mostly surrounds a religious obligation for Hindus throughout the world, Thaipusam is also a time for family members to get together and partake in the joyful festivities. But hey, who says all family members necessarily include those who are two-legged?
A recent TikTok video has been making waves online after a Malaysian girl named Mathumithaa shared a clip to her page @_whoismithaa, where she brought her dog to experience some of the Thaipusam festivities at Batu Caves.
Wearing a baby carrier with the pup secured to her chest at all times, the duo got the chance to watch a number of Kavadi performances. After that, Mithaa took her doggo around the area to view other aspects of the celebration. The entire time, the pup sat comfortably and calmly, with a big smile on her face as Mithaa carried her carefully.
In a brief conversation with WORLD OF BUZZ, Mithaa said that while she wanted to bring her dog along to experience the joyful occasion, she made sure to not let her loose from the baby carrier or to climb the steps of Batu Caves. This was to ensure not only the dog’s safety, but everyone else’s safety.
“I brought her along because I wanted her to have these moments with me. I do treat her equally with other humans. Crowds of people came over to pet her, and she didn’t disturb anyone who was there,” said Mithaa to WORLD OF BUZZ.
Receiving a lot of attention for the video, many people commented on how cute and calm Mithaa’s dog was, saying that she looked excited to see the hustle and bustle around her for the evening.
“Sure she is happy, and by seeing her visit, Lord Murugan is also happy!” wrote one user in reference to the Hindu God of War, whom the celebration of Thaipusam honours and commemorates.
