Just yesterday (January 22), a Malaysian banking application malfunctioned, causing their customers to be unable to make payments through the QR feature and more. Many also complained about being unable to access their secureTAC.

The bank took to its Facebook page to address this issue. They wrote, “It’s come to our attention that some of our customers are experiencing intermittence in the availability of the (bank’s application).”

“We request our customers to perform your banking transactions later while we look into this matter. Thank you for your support and understanding.”

Why is this happening?

People were not so understanding due to the importance of having access to their banking services to make payments, as some even mentioned that the application was unavailable to them for the entire day.

Many believed that the application’s malfunction was caused by a Chinese New Year animation that was included in the application to usher in the festive season.

“My application was stuck on the Chinese New Year greetings page and it took its time loading. So much so that I had to awkwardly stare at a cashier, who patiently waited and smiled at me. Not to mention, the pressure of being waited on by other customers in the line behind me,” a patron of the bank, Azri, told WORLD OF BUZZ.

When asked if he believes the Chinese New Year greetings caused the application to malfunction, he said, “I honestly think so”.

Many took to the bank’s Facebook post to echo this sentiment.

This begs the question, which is more important? Festive greetings or availability of banking services?

While many businesses are connecting to their customers by including local festivities in their promotions and branding, should banks follow suit if their festive initiatives may be causing their services to break down?
