Just yesterday, it was reported that an eatery was being called out for planning to raise their service charge from 10% to 15% for the Chinese New Year festive season.
Following the backlash, the eatery, Oriental Kopi 华阳, has responded.
Taking to their Facebook page, they apologised and shared that they have decided to axe the increment to their service charge.
They wrote, “Hello everyone! We are very sorry for the trouble we have caused you these few days. During the Lunar New Year, our service charge will remain unchanged and will not be adjusted. We are committed to providing you and your family and friends with the best dining experience during the New Year.”
“During this festive and joyful holidays, we sincerely look forward to your presence with your relatives and friends, to enjoy the authentic food and celebrate the New Year together.”
Perhaps they can do this instead?
One netizen then suggested a ‘festive season tip box‘ at the eatery’s cashier counter, which allows customers to leave a tip for the restaurant’s staff members working during Chinese New Year.
