We all know smoking is a bad habit; yet, there are still so many smokers around. Plus, smoking does not only harm your own health but it also harms others around you. But you guys know that already right?
This secondhand smoke is supposedly so toxic that a one-year-old baby recently suffered bacterial infection in his lungs and blood, which was allegedly caused by cigarette smoke, the doctor said.
According to Sinar Harian, 28-year-old Sayang Nadzirah Salleh, the mother of Muhammad Nazmeen Haqeel Shahrol Nizam from Batu Pahat said that her son was previously admitted to Pantai Hospital for extremely high fever. It even reached up to 40°C!
Seeing her youngest child in such distress, she decided to bring him to the hospital where the doctor told her that she admitted her son just in time, otherwise he might have experienced seizures.
She explained,
“The doctor told us that if we sent my baby in a bit later, he could have experienced convulsions as his little body was very hot and shivering. We tried to bring his temperature down with wet towels but it didn’t work.”
“My son was in the hospital for six days and during this time, he had lots of phlegm that had to be sucked out and he was also given five different types of medicine every three hours. We have never experienced this before as nobody in our household smokes,” she added. Poor little baby!
Sayang Nadzirah suspected that her son was exposed to the deadly cigarette smoke when they dined out at a stall along Jalan Kluang. She said that they had stopped there for dinner and there were other customers who were smoking around her, which could have been the cause of the infection.
She said that after going through such an ordeal, she is now more careful about bringing her child to places where he might be exposed to cigarette smoke. Although her son has fully recovered, Sayang Nadzirah hopes that this incident would be a cautionary tale to other families out there.
Thank goodness her son is all well now! Take note and be careful, everyone!
