Making history in Malaysia is no easy feat. With years of history that preceded modern-day Malaysia, accomplishing something so monumental represents nothing short of pride to the entire nation.
Such a moment was recently recorded at the Wyndham Acmar Hotel in Klang, where the National Costume for the Mrs Malaysia World pageant was revealed, and made history all at the same time. In a post shared to the pageant’s official Instagram page @mrs_malaysia_world_, the National Costume for Malaysia, which is called the Puteri Wau Bulan, was recorded as the Largest Wau Costume in Malaysia.
Modelled by the reigning Mrs Malaysia World, Mrs Vanishaantini “Vanishaa” MM Pellayrameas, the costume was designed by Sarawak designer Saran Anak Lagong, measuring 3.8m high and 4.8m wide.
Altogether, the costume weighed approximately 10kg.
According to the official Instagram post, the costume was inspired by the traditional floral batik patterns comprising Malaysia’s very own hibiscus, orchids, pagoda, Ixora, Bougainvillea, roses, and frangipani flowers.
“Such a piece signifies a representation of the Malaysian community and its rich cultural heritage,” read the caption of the post.
It was also stated that Vanishaa will be wearing the stunning masterpiece for the Mrs World 2023 pageant, which will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, this January.
Garnering a wide response, many people expressed how beautiful the costume was, aside from making history on a national platform.
“Amazing! I can already tell it will be one of the best national costumes,” commented one user.
Congratulations to Saran Anak Lagong for this iconic creation! What do you think of the Puteri Wau Bulan costume? Let us know!
