In its latest statement today, the Ministry of Education (MOE) clarified that students who don’t wear the Jalur Gemilang flag on their school uniforms will NOT be punished.
In its initial statement on March 26, MOE said effective April 21, 2025, it will be compulsory for students in schools under MOE to wear a Jalur Gemilang badge on their school uniforms, and each student will receive two free national flag badges.

MOE said the initiative of the national flag badges is to foster unity and patriotism, not to punish.
The free Jalur Gemilang badges will be distributed to the students gradually.
“The Circular Letter Professional Number 3/2025 is issued to ensure that the implementation of the initiative follows the procedures and guidelines,” said the Ministry through a frequently asked questions (FAQ) section regarding the wearing of the Jalur Gemilang badge on student uniforms.
According to the circular, the directive applies to all government schools, government-aided schools, matriculation colleges, and Institutes of Teacher Education (IPG). Moreover, MOE also encourages other educational institutions in the country to adopt the practice.
