The Ministry of Education (MOE) is taking things seriously when it comes to preserving the image of an educator, with ethics on dress code and the proper usage of social media emphasised this time.

Teachers are not allowed to wear tight and revealing outfits which can lead to negative perceptions of oneself and the image of a teacher.

In its official statement, MOE reminds Malaysian teachers to wear neat and appropriate clothing to reflect politeness and moral values and to preserve the work ethics and integrity of the teaching profession. Not only that but teachers are also expected to use social media professionally, ethically, and responsibly.

While they are in control of their respective social media account, certain content is strictly NOT allowed.

“It is prohibited to upload any postings, pictures or videos that are indecent or may create a negative perspective and affect the image of oneself and the educational institutions.”

“It is prohibited to use social media to spread content that is provocative, false, sensitive matters related to royal institutions, religion and race (3Rs), politics and internal organizational matters or any content that could spark tension.”

MOE also reminded every teacher to always maintain integrity, good morals, conduct, and appearance, whether in the workplace or public spaces and on social media. This is to ensure that the good name of the teaching profession continues to be preserved, which will strengthen public confidence in the integrity and credibility of educational institutions.
