Shoppers at Mid Valley Megamall were recently thrown into panic tonight after loud fire alarms and thick smoke prompted an emergency evacuation.
Videos and photos shared on social media showed crowds rushing toward exits as shops hastily pulled down their shutters. Several users on Threads and TikTok described the scene as chaotic, with smoke reportedly spreading throughout the mall and even reaching the car park.
One clip showed shoppers moving quickly toward the exits.

Another video showed customers trapped inside an electrical and furniture store after its shutters were closed, with those inside appearing confused and unsure of what was happening.

As of now, the cause of the incident remains unclear. No official statement has been issued by Mid Valley Megamall’s management or the Fire and Rescue Department.
Not the first time
This is not the first time Mid Valley Megamall has faced an emergency evacuation. In May 2023, a fire broke out, triggering alarms and forcing hundreds of shoppers to leave the premises.
A year earlier, in October 2022, a false alarm caused panic when smoke from a minor electrical fault set off the fire detection system.
