With the emergence of AI & the ChatGPT trend, many other technological advances are being released now.
In a Facebook video by Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, he talks about how the company is launching a “new multimodal AI model that lets people who speak different languages communicate more effectively.”
The AI model is named SeamlessM4T and it can translate speech-to-text, text-to-speech, speech-to-speech, text-to-text translation and speech recognition in over 100 languages. Specifically, it supports nearly 100 input languages and 36 output languages for speech-to-speech translations.
However, the most interesting part and probably, the most groundbreaking is how this AI model addresses code-switching which is something many of us who know more than one language do. Code-switching is a term that describes when a person switches languages in the middle of an utterance.
A Meta researcher says in a video that the AI automatically recognises the languages used in the same sentence and will translate them into a single output language. This was demonstrated when the researcher spoke in both Hindi and Telugu and the translated phrase came out perfectly in English.
Marck Zuckerberg adds that this AI will be integrated into the apps soon.
“Over time, we’ll integrate these AI advances in translation and transcription into Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Threads.”
This certainly sounds very exciting!
