FMCO: 7 Tips On How You Can Survive Football Season While Stuck At Home This Month

Now that it’s MCO and we’re about to go on lockdown again, we’re all staying safe at home with our loved ones. Sports bars and mamaks aren’t open for dine-in either which means that when football season comes around, we won’t be able to call up our friends and watch the match together. Oh no!

This can only mean one thing… we have to watch the match at home the entire football season AND share a TV with our family?? Yikes! But as scary as that sounds, we’ve got your back! Here are seven tips on how YOU can survive football season while stuck at home this year:

1. Order your go-to mamak food to relive the pre-MCO football mamak sessions at home!

Mamak 2

As Malaysians, there’s truly nothing like being at the mamak with your friends, eating your favourite food while watching the football match. Most of us are familiar with the atmosphere that surrounds the mamak especially when there’s a big game happening! So the best we can do to relive the mamak sessions at home is to tapao our favourite mamak food and eat it while watching the match! ⚽

2. Set up a group call with your football kakis so you can watch the match together

Every football fanatic out there definitely has that group of friends they go to for everything and anything football related. Whether it’s about their fantasy premier league or news updates, their football kakis always make the experience more enjoyable, especially during live matches.

Now that it’s MCO and we can’t meet up with our friends, why not set up a group call with them during the live match? That way, it’s almost like you’re watching together at the mamak!

3. Plan your TV schedule so you don’t end up fighting over the remote with your siblings!

We’ve all been there. Arguing with your siblings over who gets to use the TV can be really frustrating especially when the programme you wanna watch coincidentally airs at the same time (ugh!).

With that said, do check the live match timings and plan it with your siblings so your timings don’t clash!

4. If it’s past bedtime, don’t scream “GOAAAAL!” and wake the entire house up

If there’s one way to make everyone in the house angry, celebrating a goal and waking them up from their sleep is surely on top of the list. Would you want to be rudely woken up in the middle of the night by someone screaming “GOAL!”?

So if you’re watching the match late at night in the common areas, make sure to keep your goal celebrations to a minimum out of respect for everyone else in the house!

5. Convince your family to watch football with you as a “family bonding activity” during lockdown

Since it’s MCO and everyone’s at home, it’s the perfect time for family bonding activities! And watching football together could be one of them! In fact, many Malaysians bond with their parents or siblings over football especially if you support the same team. Trust us, it’s a lot more enjoyable to watch the match with your family rather than watching it alone!

6. Wear your team’s jersey to get into the spirit of the match even if you’re just watching from your living room

The best part about watching the live football match from the comfort of your own home is that no one will judge you for wearing your favourite team’s jersey. If you were out watching it with a group of friends, there’s bound to be a comment or two from a fan of the opposing team!

So this is your chance to wear the jersey loud and proud even if you’re just watching the match from your living room! We can also guarantee that it’ll definitely hype you up for the game too!

7. Upgrade to a larger TV so it feels like you’re watching from a giant projector screen, like at the mamak, but in ultra HD!

We’ve saved the best tip for last, obviously. In order to get the best live football viewing experience from home, why not invest in or upgrade to a brand new TV? Not only will you get a more immersive viewing experience with a larger screen in ultra HD, you can even host movie nights once MCO is over!
