McDonald’s in Japan has released an unusual new item into their menu, especially for seafood fans. Announced on September 18, the new Puripuri Ebi Purio menu item is an alternative to regular chicken nuggets and uses shrimp or prawn paste.
According to SoraNews24, the nuggets were released on September 20 in Japan. On its name, “Puripuri” means tender, “Ebi” means shrimp or prawn, and “Purio” is a play on “Filet-O”, which is what the Filet-O-Fish burger is called in Japan.
TimeOut reported that the nuggets were made available in 2006 as a one-off, seasonal menu item. Somehow, they decided to bring it back for a limited period — until the end of October 2023.
However, despite being a seafood item, it reportedly contains traces of beef, TimeOut added.
Although it may sound weird, reviewers have had good experiences with the shrimp prawn and have said that it might just have the power to overtake the popularity of other side menu items.
