After a night of singing karaoke and hitting high notes, a 25-year-old man wound up in the emergency room due to a collapsed lung.

According to Oddity Central, the young man from China suffered a serious lung by attempting to reach high-pitch tones during a hardcore karaoke session.

The man, known as Wang Zhe, attended a friend’s birthday party and decided to show off his voice by singing “New Drunken Concubine”, a song well known for its high-pitched notes and tones.

As the 25-year-old reached the high-pitched part of the song, he gave it his all and then felt a sharp pain in his chest.

The pain was unbearable but didn’t pay too much attention to it until the very next day when he found himself struggling to breathe.

He was then rushed to the hospital where the doctors told him after getting an X-ray done that he had suffered a pneumothorax, a potentially life-threatening condition where air bubbles form between the lung and the chest wall.

Doctors confirmed that when Wang Zhe strained himself to reach those high notes of the song, he had used too much force that the air sacks in his right lung burst. This caused air pockets larger than one centimeter to form in the chest cavity, compressing the lung to 15% of its normal volume.

The young man needed to undergo a bullectomy to resolve the issue. Luckily, he made a full recovery and was later discharged from Changsa Central Hospital.
