One of our national dishes, roti canai, is ranked as one of the best breads in the world!
According to the latest ranking by the online travel guide Taste Atlas which promotes traditional food worldwide, Malaysia’s roti canai tops the list as the best bread in the world. It received the same 4.9 ranking as pandebono from Columbia, making both of them the world’s best-rated breads.
Along with roti canai, the top ten rankings also include butter garlic naan and naan from India, nan-e barbari from Iran, baguette and tarte flambée from France, piadina romagnola from Italy, and pan de yuca from Columbia.
A traditional pan-fried bread in Malaysia, roti canai is also available in neighbouring countries like Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, and Thailand.
For those who don’t know, there are actually many varieties of roti canai. For instance, roti tisu, roti telur, roti prata, roti pisang, and more.
As Malaysians, we’re so proud that one of our national favourite dishes has made it on the list as number one!
